Will this ever blow over?

Well, she’s at it again. Carol Slezak has another column about all this blow-up doll nonsense. I know I’m kind of contradicting myself from my last entry for talking about it again, but what can I say, I’m irritated. First of all, I found out that Slezak didn’t even see the blow-up dolls. That in itself is a whole other issue. However, I must say her latest article kind of made me loose some faith in humanity, at least when it comes to literacy.

If anyone hasn’t seen this Sunday’s Sun-Times, Slezak decided to share some of her hate mail. While I was reading through it, I was embarrassed for these people. Bleeps in every other sentence and stupid things like calling her a Cubs fan. Like that has anything to do with it.

It’s kind of interesting how all that opposed her seemed like they had the writing ability of a five-year-old, while those who agreed were pretty literate. I’m sure she had some pretty intelligent responses against her little rant, but she wants everyone to think that only the idiots out there disagree. It was also kind of funny to see that she added a comment from her niece. I don’t think that helped her case, of course she’s going to agree with her. The others that agreed with Slezak are trying to take this to a whole other level.

For example, Elaine sent Slezak: “Given their rationale, it would be perfectly acceptable for a predominantly or all-white professional team (almost any NHL team) to erect a similar shrine but include only black dolls. For some inane reason, sexism is not considered as seriously as racism — primarily because racism affects men and sexism generally does not.”  What? Where is she going with this? I’m sorry, but I still see it as a harmless prank and people need to just move on. This is getting a little ridiculous.

  1. I heard she interviewed the blowup doll, but she wasn’t talking. I guess she was out of air.
