A Dip In The Shallow End

By: Angie Wiatrowski

I was kind of hoping I wouldn’t have to gripe about these kinds of things, but what can I say, we live in a shallow world. I think the only reason I continue to read the Chicago Sun-Times is to find things that tick me off so I can complain about it here. For example, I take a look at the paper on Monday, and on the front corner is a picture of three young females in Sox gear. What is the purpose you may ask? The Sun-Times is looking for the best looking fans. That’s right, it’s not about the Cross-Town Classic when it comes to the Cubs and Sox this year, its about who has the hottest fans. Are you kidding me? When I flipped open to the page, I must admit I was surprised it didn’t contain only women. There were two pictures of men in a collage of eight women. It gets worse too, half the women shown are dressed as if they’re going to a club. It’s a baseball game! What happened to jeans and jerseys? I’m sorry maybe I’m old fashioned, but this is just a little ridiculous if you ask me. God forbid if a woman mentions how a player looks in his baseball uniform. Most men just get frustrated and assume that’s all women care about. But I guess it’s ok to walk around and look for good-looking women (and a couple men) at a ballgame and rate them. I guess the Sun-Times is really hurting for news here. I’m really hoping that the Cubs and Sox’ organizations have nothing to do with this too, even though I can imagine that they would. What happened to the game? I don’t care what everyone else looks like, I care about what’s going on out on the field.
